Eilik - A Tech Product that Emphasizes Emotional Interaction

Eilik is an emotional intelligent desktop companion robot launched by Energize Lab. Inspired by the character EVE in the movie WALL-E, Eilik is compact and sits on a round base. 

The product includes a variety of sensors: head sensor, back sensor, belly sensor, shock sensor, physical buttons, microphone, and infrared sensor. Its main output is a monochrome OLED display serving as its face, along with speakers inside the head, while a custom servo motor allows movement of the head, body, and arms.

We created an extremely rich expression system for Eilik to make it more lifelike, including laughing, screaming, crying, boredom, speechless, disappointment, cuteness, humor, wrongdoings, cursing, anger, etc. In addition, Eilik can vividly express itself through animation and a 25fps OLED display.

Our in-house animation team works hard to create realistic expressions for Eilik, making it livelier and more fun. Every action requires collaboration from scriptwriters, storytellers, animators, and voice actors before software engineers program them for Eilik.

To make Eilik’s arms and body more flexible and dexterous, we specially designed a new servo motor. The EM3 is 100% self-developed, from gear layout and circuit boards to control algorithms. Compared to traditional 9g servos, EM3’s torque can reach up to 3kg.

EM3 can effectively protect gears and compensate for external force with its overload clutch protection function. Position, voltage, temperature, and current feedback are all supported by EM3’s comprehensive control protocol, using a universal serial communication interface. Basic current loop control is also available. A dedicated control and debugging software is included with EM3.
